"In the hush where the light thins and
color awakens, tall stems rise in a soft ascent.
a silent rhythm against the dark. Tulips burn
softly. A rose opens as if remembering something
long held. Birds settle along the living
stems - warblers, field sparrow, an eastern
pewee, and an orchard oriole - not arriving
but answering a call.
Her the night is not empty.
It is listening.
